About This Special Issue
The innovative development mode of platform-based sharing economy matches information between supply and demand with the help of Internet information technology, enabling institutions or individuals to reconfigure and make full use of idle resources, and generating certain economic benefits. According to the prediction of Price Waterhouse Coopers, one of the world’s top accounting firms, the global shared economic output will reach 230 billion pounds by 2025, with huge economic scale and development potential. Under this background, ride-hailing platforms include Uber, Lyft, Didi Chuxing, and Meituan Taxi came into being. Due to the optimization of operations management such as pricing and matching plays a determinative role in generating profits for these platforms, it has attracted the attention of many scholars in the current academic context.
The primary goal of this special issue is to seek papers that study issues that have an impact on firms’ marketing, supply chain, operations, and information strategies in the platform economy. We invite contributions that explore in marketing, supply chain, operations, information systems, and allied fields, with particular interest in pricing and supply-demand matching issues arising in the platform economy.
The list is short and general on purpose, to encourage potential authors to adopt a variety of perspectives in approaching their research topics. Types of articles welcomed: Original research articles, review articles, case studies, etc. Through this special issue, we aim to invite academics to contribute to a better understanding of new, unique, and challenging operational management issues arising in the platform economy. We are open to papers that explore a variety of research questions to advance our knowledge of the platform economy, provide better decision support for firms, and enhance consumer welfare. We welcome researchers from various disciplines to provide interdisciplinary perspectives on operations research in the platform economy. Your contributions will play a crucial role in advancing knowledge in this field.
